Introduction

Currently, standard DDR SDRAM memory is the PC-3200 clocked at 400MHz.  The OCZ PC-3500 Gold Edition GX that we are looking at is clocked at 433MHz.  Usually higher clock speed memory comes with higher latency, but not for the PC-3500 Gold Edition GX.  This memory comes with perhaps the fast latency possible at 2-2-2-5.

The GX abbreviation on the name of the memory stands for Gamer eXtreme, and OCZ is clearly targeting this line for gamers.  From looking at the specifications, you can see two main features that this memory has that will improve gaming performance and they are low latency and high bandwidth (faster memory clock speeds).  While both of these features together will pretty much improve any application, there is almost no other software that will noticeable show you how fast or slow your system is than gaming.

Certain games will capitalize more on the high bandwidth and these games are usually the ones that scale nicely with a faster video card.  While the games that are very CPU dependent, like Half-Life 2, will benefit on the low latency memory (as well as the higher bandwidth).  It is apparent that OCZ understands these two requirements for both types of gaming needs and clearly set their GX series to address these issues.
