Introduction

When it comes to creating a silent PC, up until recently there were very few options. No matter how quiet you could make your system, you were inevitably stuck with a noisy PSU, CPU fan, and video card fan.

It wasnâ??t so long ago that I remember power supply shopping before upgrading my personal computer. I remember checking out everything from 300 W to 550 W, with features ranging from nothing to extravagant. Unfortunately, the one feature I was most interested was almost never even considered, decibel output.

Now, I donâ??t know about the rest of you, but not all of us have the luxury of keeping our PC in a room all to itself. The last thing I wanted was a power supply that sounded like an Apache helicopter every time my PC was on. Not only that, but it seemed the more powerful the power supply unit (PSU) got, the louder and louder it became. This was incredibly frustrating to say the least. Which do you sacrifice? Silence or power?

Well, if youâ??re like me and are hoping to turn that Sherman tank beside you into a slipper wearing ninja, then this product just might be a step in the right direction. The Thermaltake Purepower fanless power supply is exactly as advertised, FANLESS. Since the fan generally accounts for almost all the sound generated by a PSU, I jumped at the chance to review it. This one boasts absolute silence. Musicâ?Šerrrâ?ŠI mean Silence to my ears!
