Background
LucasArts has been recognized for making great quality games in the past. Some notable games that they have made were the Monkey Island series, Grim Fandango, and Sam and Max. However, what made them popular were their Star Wars games. It all started with the Star Wars: Dark Forces. Players were immersed in a universe with people, backgrounds and locations not unknown to them, but rather familiar from watching the Star Wars movies. They would see famous armor-clad stormtroopers, Tyderian shuttles, and cantinas. As they made more games, players got more and more interested in the use of Force powers - - the enchanted powers of a Jedi.
Unfortunately, the main types of games they made in the Star Wars category were two-fold. If it was not Jedi related, it was a space simulation. Iâ??m not saying LucasArtsâ?? space sims were bad, in fact, Iâ??d say they were the best space sims Iâ??ve ever flown (my favorite is still the classic Tie Fighter Collectors Edition). However, it seemed that LucasArts mainly made Jedi (Knights of the Old Republic, Jedi Academy, Jedi Outcast) and space sim games (X-Wing Alliance, Starfighter, Rogue Squadron). For those Star Wars enthusiasts who took interest in the Battle of Hoth or the Battle of Endor in the movies (or people like me who have been waiting to impale an ewok with a speederbike), theyâ??ve waited and waited for a game that gave them a chance to pilot the four-legged AT-AT behemoth and the AT-ST, as well as involve them in a grunt vs. grunt ground battle.
Until now. Star Wars Battlefront is the newest game released by LucasArts. It concentrates mainly on ground warfare, where the player can be a snowtrooper on Hoth fighting against rebels, or a battledroid in Mos Eisley fighting against a platoon of clonetroopers. Players choose their classes and can take control of a variety of vehicles. This game is both first-person and third-person.
