I would like to take the time to thank Andy for taking the time answer a few questions here, to give us an overview of OCZ and this ram in particular.
Justin: Andy is there anything else you would like prospective customers to know before we get to the interview?
Andy: OCZ is a company founded by gamers, and run by gamers. We also have quite a few computer geeks amongst us. We have great passion for our work and use our own products everyday. We are proud of the OCZ customer support team and feel that our support and fast RMA service is second to none. We have a support forum here:
http://www.bleedinedge.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=45 . Anyone is welcome to pop in and we will answer any and all questions, even those about a competitor's product. The site is manned by some of the biggest names in overclocking and we all play the latest games, so if you need help please stop on by.
Justin: Ok Andy I, like many gamers, have never bought performance ram for our rigs. In the past I would rely on Generic/Value ram for my gaming/benching rig as far back as I can remember. What are the advantages of using OCZ ram over generic solutions?
Andy: The average gamer will benefit from OCZ high performance memory through the ability to
run tighter memory timings at stock speeds, or from overclocking their system and running their memory buss at a higher speeds. Both of these situations can greatly increase a system's performance and increase frame rates.
Justin: What has OCZ technologies done to distance themselves from competitors in the enthusiast RAM market {ie: Geil, Crucial's Ballistix line, Corsair's XMS, etc.)?
Andy: OCZ has a talented engineering and design group that is constantly working on cutting edge products. We screen our RAM chips for product suitability to an extremely high standard. Our memory PCB's are built to OCZ specs and have a great deal to do with our quality and overclocking ability.
In addition to memory, OCZ has recently expanded into other areas of the market. We have the new Powerstream line of power supplies that include a 5 year warranty, VGA/HDD Power Lead and the DDR Booster as recent examples of this expansion. Of course we have more great products on the way.
Justin: What is your target market for OCZ EL DDR PC-3200 Platinum Revision 2?
Andy: OCZ PC3200 Platinum Rev 2 is truly a universal product. We have had excellent results on NF2, NF3, VIA 880/880 Pro and Intel 865/875. The option of running 2-2-2 timings at speeds above 200mhz and the incredible headroom that allows 260mhz + operation make it a unique product. Of course you must have the right CPU/Mobo combination to hit these amazing speeds.
Justin: Are there any hints you can give us pertaining to the future of Enhanced Latency memory or is your focus now shifting to you Enhanced Bandwidth series?
Andy: OCZ is focusing on new memory product development for all platforms. The EL Series, Gold Series, Performance Series and EB line all have their place in our line up. We want to provide our new and existing OCZ fans with the fastest most innovative products on the planet, regardless of their system platform choice.
